Pikewood (Common)
An unassuming timber at a glance, this lightly colored wood is commonly found in both North and South Aliud and is known for its rustic qualities, and is rather lightweight. Though easily flammable, the properties of this wood allow it to sustain a fire with minimal kindling for applications such as campfires and torches. Pikewood is also used as a basis for most rudimentary arms such as bows and spears. Cheap and inexpensive, this wood has been used as a building block for many civilizations within North and South Aliud for centuries.
Spirch (Uncommon)
A species of lumber endemic to North Aliud, the spirch tree is a hardy wood that protects against the harsh, chilled weather conditions of North Aliud. Hardy and resilient, spirch retains a distinct taupe color and is imported in bulk to South Aliud and Tao for the construction of structures that require more durability and resilience than what Pikewood can offer. Though most would never discount the merits of pikewood, it’s generally accepted that spirch is a superior resource due to its resistance to water damage overtime.
Alderleaf (Uncommon)
Alderleaf is a genetically enhanced species of wood made from crossbreeding both pikewood and spirch, two of the most commonly found wood types in North and South Aliud. Inheriting the robustness of Spirch and retaining the featherweight qualities of Pikewood, this wood is an artisans choice for wood carving and ideal weapon craft. Though sought after by many nations in North and South Aliud, this wood is largely cultivated in Aurum, making it difficult to source for even the most renowned craftsmen due to how expensive it is to cultivate and export reliably. Those who are lucky enough to acquire Alderleaf can recognize it’s value due to it’s almost unnatural viridian color.
Tsukami Bamboo (Rare)
Found exclusively in the nation of Qyzen, the inhabitants of Roan recognize Qyzen’s monopoly of their trade in Tsukami, as it only thrives in certain tropical regions. Though Tsukami is notably more flammable than Alderleaf, craftsmen all across Roan cannot deny the simplicity of fashioning the wood to meet the most demanding of applications, and its resistance to extended periods of abuse after special treatment. Historically, Tsukami has been revered for both its ability to grow in vast quantities, and its renown for being a primary component of some of the most influential pieces of art and weaponry in Tao’s storied history – for good reason.
Culfark (Very Rare)
An imported wood from Ferran recognizable by its ebony colored wood, it’s known exclusively for it’s fire retardant qualities, and resilience to abuse from blade and even sorcery. However, it should be noted that once Culfark reaches a certain temperature, the fire that engulfs the wood is near impossible to extinguish, producing a distinctive white flame. Culfark has since been protected by the elves of Ferran due to its presence in their hallowed forests that dot the continent. Though much of the Culfark seen in other regions across Roan have either been smuggled or were introduced in earlier history, it’s remarkably difficult to cultivate due to the inconsistent reproductive nature of the tree. Culfark trees produce seeds inconsistently, as they are extremely temperamental in native climates - their saplings even more so, as germination can range from a decade to half a century.
Eldergrove (Mythical)
Not much is known about Eldergrove other than that it’s said only to grow in only one place in all of Roan - Crescent Island, which rests along the Iseus Sea beyond the shores of Ferran. Eldergrove retains a deep navy blue color that is unique to only this species of tree in all of Roan. Said to be imbued with magical properties, it’s believed these trees act as conduits to the Maetercies itself, capable of channeling earth and wind mana that grant this wood it’s featherweight properties. Even the sharpest of blades are said to be unable to cut eldergrove without the assistance of miracles or enchantments. It should be noted that any of those who have sought after Eldergrove risk incurring the wrath of both Gelkur and Felkur, and even the serpents that inhabit Crescent Island.
Laspifer (Ascended)
Said only to exist in legends in the era during the Fomorian Crisis, Fomorians were said to wield weapons fashioned from a grey colored wood able to withstand the heat of the deepest depths of the Calida Volcano, adding merit to the otherwise obscure knowledge of Fomorian craftsmanship. Historians, craftsmen, and treasure hunters alike have been said to scour all across Roan in search of this wood said to be nigh impenetrable by conventional means. The few who have claimed to see Laspifer swear that the wood itself almost seems to radiate an almost spectral sheen analogous to that of enchanted metals.
