While the market of leather and animal furs are widely traded throughout Roan for practical uses, there are other linen materials within circulation which are slightly more expensive and multi-purpose that are worthy of note.
Cairnwood Linens (Common)
Considered to be the second largest import out of the County of Cairnwood, tailors of Stucia and Cyrus often resort to the use of Cairnwood linens due to the quality of human and elven craftsmanship involved in the process of its production. Otherwise considered to be quite rudimentary and prone to stains and tears, many inhabitants of South Aliud trust in the quality of the linens from Cairnwood for basic necessities and garments for comfort and breathability. Furthermore, Cairnwood linen is often commissioned by the City State of Cyrus to be dyed in a variety of colors for tapestries and banners displayed proudly within the region.
Tundra Cotton (Uncommon)
Utilized heavily by the Draken and Orcish peoples of North Aliud, tundra cotton is remarkably soft and warm to the touch, offering protection against the harsh elements of the northern continent. The Eptnic peoples are also known to utilize Tundra Cotton for how thick the material allows for resistance against rupturing and lacerations in the design of their armors. However, Tundra Cotton takes much longer to dry as opposed to Cairnwood linen, and is quite vexing to wear when it has been completely submerged in water.
Jet Velvet (Uncommon)
This velvet is harvested from the black horned deer that are endemic to Aurum in the continent of South Aliud. Due to the rarity of this velvet and relatively small population of black horned deer within their habitat, this velvet is only harvested at certain times of the year either before or during the winter season. Jet velvet’s value comes from its hardiness and water resistances, able to stay dry even in the harshest of storms, making it quite valuable for the production of ship sails and even armors, when fashioned together with leather.
Luna Silk (Rare)
A silk weaved by the haired moonlight caterpillar prior to its metamorphosis into an ancient moonlight butterfly. The moonlight caterpillar never survives it’s transformation before it is harvested for its silk, leading to certain species of the caterpillar to be considered endangered in the continent of Tao. Retaining an almost mystical sheen from the latent mana imbued within the silk, it is quite durable and resistant to most stains and tearing. Luna-silk-produced attire is widely accepted to be a symbol of status around Roan, especially within the nations of Tao.
Ferran Zari (Very Rare)
This textile is fabricated by the nations of Ferran for its luxurious, lightweight construction. Incorporating the use of silk and thin metal threads, Ferran zari is often embroidered with elaborate designs adorned predominantly upon regal circles and figures of influence. It is a staple in many fashion circles and exported to different regions of Roan to tailors, who are often commissioned by discerning customers interested in garments that commands attention and radiate illusions of sophistication. On the flip side, Ferran zari is also used by elvish and even dwarven nations to embroider their armor, garments, and tapestries.
Deep Weaver Silk (Mythical)
A rare commodity practically impossible to source due to the extreme danger of harvesting such a material. Deep weaver silk is spun together by palespawn known as deep weavers, an extremely dangerous creature which can only be found in the Farthest Depths of Roan. However, members of the Adventurer’s Guild and even Dwarven Rangers are often tasked to retrieve deep weaver silk from their dens outside of subterranean Dwarven strongholds. Deep weaver silk is worth its weight in gold, as it is considered one of the lightest fabrics in all of Roan, and harbors some measure of magical resistances, while also boasting flame retardant properties.
Dragonhide (Ascended)
The undertaking of recovering dragonhide is no small feat, making the trade of dragonhide reserved to high ranking guild members, nobility, and royal families. To obtain dragonhide requires a great measure of patience and expert caution, as many who have attempted such a foolhardy task more often than not meet an untimely demise. For those who can, however, successfully rend a hide from a dragon are worthy of great fortune and song. Dragonhide has been used to produce some of the most renowned pieces of arms and armor in all of recorded history. Furthermore, the most fascinating quality of dragonhide is that it retains the magical properties and resistances of the dragon type it harvested from, making the material virtually priceless. Though, many who have tried to acquire it have been met with ill fortune and a swift death.
