RunesmithingTo understand runesmithing one must first understand that runes are the secret language craft of the dwarvish people and have powered their advanced technology for millennia. Believed to have been given to them by the creator god Irian in ancient times it is a way of empowering objects by calling on the power of creation itself and channeling it through language. A singular rune can often have a number of varying meanings depending on the context or it may be a phrase in whole. The way to activate however depends on the users action at a certain moment.
(Depicted below is examples of runed axes) It is quite common to believe that every dwarf is able to create runes however this is false- all dwarves can read it, but only select few may create them. Runesmiths are masters of manipulating the power of creation through language and have upheld this sacred tradition since the very creation of the dwarf kingdom. Becoming a runesmith however is a hard and treacherous path, very few are granted the prestigious title by the High king.
The power of runes may vary from a beginner runesmith barely able to etch runes capable of starting sparks while the most ancient and battle-scarred runesmiths able to etch runes onto cannons making them the shot create explosions the size of small towns onto incoming hordes of enemies.
