Yses is the primary deity of death and fate. The appearance of Yses varies from each sighting and person, though most often depicted as an enrobed skeleton in literature and art, though it isnโt unheard of stories of a man or woman accompanying the dying before they breathe their last breath and disappearing into thin mist.
Yses' first function is as the guide of souls for the gods, bringing the souls of the dead to the afterlife. Yses also serves as a warning of impending death. It is not uncommon to hear stories of a skeletal apparition in the sky before a battle, as well as Yses' signs, such as the crow being used as a forewarning and ill omen, or the sight of cairns appearing on a battlefield to cause with strong spiritual belief to turn away.
Yses, however, is not viewed negatively by most. His role, though considered grim, is viewed as necessary by most common men. Despite this, he does not have many religious followers. Those few who do follow him, do this only because of his ability to change fate, as he is willing to perform should he be convinced to do so. Oddly fickle based on his tales, one well known example is Yses taking the appearance of a plague doctor and visiting a plague addled village and offering to cleanse the town, so long as they select five to perish with the disease instead. The moral dilemma that occurred amused Yses, but ultimately the selfish actions of the chiefs of the town to save themselves prompted Yses to leave fate to its course, decimating the village. This has prompted many to speculate Yses to have a sense of justice, but as it is merely a tale, most will never know.
Yses is often associated with skulls and graves, as well as timepieces due to his control over fate.
