You know, he really was a good man- Ah, I’m not just saying that because he was duke, I’m saying that because he was my friend. He and I we used to know each other back in the day. Back when he was still Cormick of Stucia, our own prince charming.
Oh I miss the days of fame and fortune, I think he missed it too. We always went around, seeing the world, doing good things. You could write a book about our adventures, our travels spanned from Durtheim to Sunquan. That’s why he was such a good ruler, he’s seen the world, seen good and evil, done good, done evil- though he never wanted to. Yeah- evil, I know. But he wasn’t. You can’t try and change the world without consequences, sometimes you have to choose a lesser evil. He hated that, but you don’t have a choice, because doing nothing is the worst option.
I think back to our days and I remind myself of the people we met, and how we met them. Some were peculiar individuals, like Corbyn, Jorbyn and Borbyn. Best men I’ve ever met, but I can’t really say they matched Cormick’s sword fighting skills. He really was the best among us.
Then you have me of course. Pff, he was uh - he announced his quest to slay the great Canyon Worm. We laughed at him. We didn’t know who this fool was, thought he was some drunk. It’s only later, after we actually got drunk that he convinced me.
A rogue and a knight, off to slay some giant worm- I can’t believe we actually managed. I also can’t believe the money we got off of it. You’d expect to get rich, guessed wrong. Certain that he’d actually make some money and a name for himself he sought out the order of the Eagle. Hoping they had some contracts on some beast or so- He really wanted to get himself killed in some reckless quest.
Well he got one, a basilisk or something, but we were distracted in Corenfeld by some- ah. Let’s just say we figured something out which we shouldn’t. Got tossed in the dungeon for that. That’s how we met Sylla, you know – the Duchess, before they married. A cell adjacent to us those two idiots came up with an escape plan. She was imprisoned for suspected murder and dark magic – really not surprising. But, I can’t say if it is true.
That’s how we met her, but they didn’t get along initially. Cormick never got along with her questionable ethics and magic. I can’t blame him. But both really were more alike than you’d think, on a personal level of course. Sure, Cormick was a prince charming, attractive, noble, always wanting to do the right thing – you know. But then you’d have Sylla, sure she was an eyecandy to look at, still is, but back in the day… Then you’ve got her ambition, the sorceress thing and uh- but she was lonely. She could have had any man she’d want. Just like Cormick could have had any woman he’d want. But both lacked an intellectual equal. I think that’s why they fell in love, and that love was true, I know. They really were happy together.
