Samael was raised along with the royal family of Valera. Taken voluntarily at a young age to be trained for service to Valera due to his aptitude, those who raised him had high hopes, and he certainly did not disappoint.
Samael became the finest knight the kingdom had ever had, despite being in times of peace, his feats were nothing short of impressive, felling the enemies of the kingdom and rising through the ranks. He served with the king in their battles against the Tuathans, and he had even weeded out necromancy from the ranks of the king's forces. He was ultimately promoted to the royal guard, where he was assigned to be the king's own bodyguard while at the same time, Prince Rellan ascended to the throne. The two had grown up together, and their reunion at the throne was an event for the both of them, as they regarded each other truly as friends.
Over the years, Samael continued to serve, protecting the king from would be assassins and foiling plots against the throne, but he never could have predicted a threat from within. He came close, following the trails of information and learning the whispers and rumors before anything had ever happened, and yet he still could not act fast enough. He never deduced who was leading a group of conspirators until it was far too late. On the eve of a festival, the Midsummer banquet ended in a massacre, claiming the lives of the royal family, and Samael himself. Quick as he was, he was overwhelmed, but in his dying breaths he felt an overwhelming energy. A familiar voice, calling to him from beyond the veil - one that offered a second chance if he promised to give his soul once his body perished a second time.
Samael arose once again with newfound power and a mission. His body was torn, mangled by blades, but he felt no pain, no fatigue. Samael made his way across the banquet hall to the bodies of his beloved friends - the royal family he grew up with - and managed to place his hands over the hearts of Rellan and Anwyn, and with his new power, offered the same second chance at life to his friends.
