An ancient tower, standing longer than any empire on Roan, stretching so far into the sky its end is hidden in the clouds. So large it it dwarfs cities and stands larger than fortresses. No being has accurately guessed the number of floors of this gigantic structure, and even fewer can comprehend the purpose. It's surface is metal - some alloy never before seen on Roan and is believed to be divine. It's architecture and design has nothing comparable, and attempts to breach the walls have made no progress. The Tower stands far in the center of the ruins of Valera, distant from civilization and far enough for anyone to see the tower clearly.
Upon its first discovery centuries ago, the bravest explorers who stepped foot in the tower did not return. When news of the tower spread, many more flocked to the island to learn more, and many more made attempts to explore the many floors and were not heard of again. Eventually, after many attempts, the doors opened, and an adventurer stepped out of the tower instead of going in. This one adventurer is the basis of the majority of the information the world at large has of the tower's depths. And it is the reason why the tower is considered a dungeon.
The Tower functions exactly as a dungeon would - entry into the tower closes one into it's depths, in which adventurers must clear a floor of its enemies and challenges before being allowed to ascend to the next. Each floor provides rewards, equipment and materials, which only become more and more rare and expensive the higher one climbs the tower. At the same time, the challenges become more difficult with each floor. There is no end that has been discovered, and the only way to leave is to complete the floor one is currently on, and descend the tower. No one has reached the top.
Today, entry is all but impossible. Reaching the tower alone is a near suicidal task, with the amount of dead that swarmed out of Valera so long ago, the area of the tower quickly was overrun and the outposts meant for adventurers daring the tower were destroyed near instantly. Now the Tower sits as a beautiful, but grim monument to the land conquered by the undead plague.
